Cute Wallets To Artisanal Cheese: We Are Giving You 7 Reasons To Check Out This Maker's Market

The information in this post might be outdated

By Hand, From The Heart is a popular curated maker’s market that promotes upcoming brands as part of their two-day carnival. They’ve had around 22 editions already since 2011. We went there last year and had so much fun {our shopping bags were stuffed with goodies made by small, local businesses} that we can’t wait for this year’s line-up. So Chennai peeps don’t miss some of these lovely brands that truly make products by hand, from the heart.

The Sufi Studio

Based in Ahmedabad and started by Varsha Devjani and Lajwanti Kulkarni, Sufi Studio works with sustainable products. At the market you can find clothes printed in hand-block and yarn-dyed styled reversible jumpsuits, unisex pants, dresses and they even have funky brass and wooden jewellery.

The Baker Ninja

Niranjana is a home baker who specialises in French macarons and Belgian chocolate cookies. She even has a shop in Alwarpet and whips up customised cakes. She recently did one customised to the theme of Stranger Things with fake Eggos too! At the market, expect delicious cupcakes, cookies and even gluten-free, refined sugar-free loaf cakes and flavoured energy bites from their special clean range {if you’re watching your diet}.

How we love this Chennai artisanal cheese brand! If you’re sick of processed cheese, try this instead! Namrata Sundaresan and Anu at Käse will be bringing a range of new products at this year’s market — freshly made Buffalo Mozarella, Burrata, Fondue Mix, Ricotta Salata. And the best part? They give out free samples — get ready to get high on cheese!

Mookuthi

This Chennai-based brand is showcasing their first ever collection at the event and is one of the showstoppers of this year’s carnival.  Mookuthi is a fine jewellery brand that offers handmade nose ornaments using gold, metal and precious stones. They’ve taken inspiration from across the country — check out their nose rings inspired by the southern town of Athankudi {where they specialise in making Athankudi tiles}. But do note that they’re expensive {prices start from INR 4,000}.

Wonky Works

If you’re looking for more affordable options check out Wonky Works. The products here are for people who love quirky collectibles that make the planet happier too. They offer upcycled bottles and work mainly with glass { think kiln-formed, blown and etched}. It’s all about turning junk into wonky works of art. Find tableware, objet d’art, holders/stands, planters, lights and more!
