R & R in Town | Where we go

The information in this post might be outdated

By Jahnavi Prasad and Jia Singh

We all have days when our feet ache from the innumerable hours we spend in high heels, or necks ache from constantly hunching over a laptop, and sometimes, one just wants to switch off.

You wake up some mornings and crave some undivided, selfishly devoted time to yourself, in a sanctuary that isn’t your home. For us, this means we shut off our phones and notebooks and head to Delhi’s finest spas to energize and rejuvenate. Of course, good things like this often come at a hefty price. We have spent the better part of our years in Delhi experimenting with the city’s wellness options and have decided to give you three options that suit different budgets.

{Disclaimer- this isn’t a list of the best spas in Delhi, only ones we recommend from personal experience.}

Ishana Nature Spa MGF Mall, Saket | A centrally-located wellness sanctuary with massage offerings for every budget

We opted for two 60-minute sessions of the Santisukh Tranquility massage, which is a fusion of two massages. It started with the therapist giving us a dry massage with techniques of shiatsu - a form of traditional yoga used to stretch the body - followed by an intensive aromatherapy oil massage that brought tranquility to my entire being. The therapist worked on each tense nerve and muscle, while the aroma of the oil and a soft melody filled the confines of the room, collectively working on restoring the body’s harmony. We have to admit that a few minutes into our session, we drifted off to sleep.

We were made to stretch and contort our bodies as a culmination to the session. The massage was rounded off perfectly with a few minutes in the sauna.

More reasons to explore |

  • Souvenir shop
  • A comprehensive range of massage therapies that last from 15 minutes to 5 hours
  • Friendly staff to guide you through the range
  • Affordable therapies compared to their competitors
  • The spacious spa rooms

Tamaya Spa at Jaypee Vasant Continental | If you want to get more bang for your buck

Nestled within the confines of the crowded, busy Vasant Vihar {Priya} market, this spa sure is a blessing for sore muscles and tired feet. After weeks of shaadi madness, intense workout sessions and crazy work schedules, we decided to enroll ourselves for an hour long Balinese massage {3000+taxes}. The massage started on time and we were thoroughly impressed with the state of the art massage rooms - fully equipped with steam, sauna and Jacuzzi rooms. The massage started with some acupressure, which had us screaming because we had sore bits that needed serious help. Acupressure typically helps relieve pain and promote blood flow to the joints, subsequently relaxing the body. The masseuse then proceeded to use a combination of scented oils to massage the body and scalp. When the time was up - we jumped into the sauna and waltzed out feeling more energized, supple and relaxed than we had in a long long time.

More reasons to explore |

  • Their salon offerings - specifically their pedicures and hair treatments
  • A 10 minute dip in their Jacuzzi
  • A state of the art gymnasium {albeit small} but replete with all the latest technology for gym rats and the fitness conscious
  • Warm and courteous staff that work towards making each visit a memorable one

The Spa at The Lodhi | An incredible experience, provided you are willing to drop the moolah

We are particularly fond of The Lodhi hotel and had heard that the UK based beauty brand Ila had found its way into their spa menus. We knew we were in for a real treat so we called their reservation desk with high hopes and bated breath. Ila works in harmony with nature, aligning the body, mind and spirit with the earth's underlying rhythms. Sourced from the finest plant and mineral agreements, each treatment is an amalgamation of ancient yoga techniques, energy work, massage and chakra balancing for a holistic approach.

In desperate need of a facial - we opted for 75 minutes of the amazon facial {INR 5760++}. Unlike other facials, Ila’s signature offering didn’t involve vigorous scrubbing of the pores, blackhead removal and steam. Instead, it consisted of a warm herbal compress massage and deep lymphatic drainage, followed by the fabulous Amazonian mud mask {made exclusively from handpicked ingredients in the amazon}. We walked out rosey cheeked, feeling recharged and ready to take on the world. A visit to their salon for a cappuccino and a blow dry was the perfect way to culminate the session. It's been less than 3 weeks since our facial and we have already recommended it to at least a dozen women in this city.

More reasons to explore |

  • Order from the carefully designed organic spa menu that is light and absolutely delicious. We recommend their oat bran upma, in house nutri bar and wild berry granita
  • Experience the city’s first Turkish hammam and walk away feeling invigorated and balanced
  • Book yourself into the hair spa and your tresses will thank you {90 minutes; Rs. 3000}
  • Surprise your partner with their signature couples spa package {rajkumari and rajkumar package}, which includes a foot bath, body scrub, massage and body wrap
  • Rejuvenate your peepers with their eye therapy that will visibly reduce puffiness and dark circles, while soothing the irritation around the eyes

Don’t just take our word for it - book one of these and treat yourselves to some ‘me time’ this weekend.
