Winning For…

An all-day breakfast menu that will practically make you forget any other meal.

Lowdown On Ambience

Decked out in blue and white, this is a true-blue Mediterranean café which offers a cosy garden, indoor and balcony seating. Red brick interiors are adorned with posters from European towns, quotes in foreign languages. Plus, mini Eiffel Towers on each table for effect.

On Our Hit List

Brekkie is the main focus here, so we’ll elaborate on that separately. Meanwhile, there’s oodles to look forward to and we suggest you start with the Cream Cheese Bombs {gooey cheese and jalapeno crumb fried} and the interesting Tobasco and Sweet Chilli Crispers. The latter is a variation of chilli chicken, and hits all the right spots if you can take the spice. The Rich Macaroni and Cheese, very American and very cheesy, is great, as are the pizzas {they even have a Mac n Cheese option}. Steaks {fish, chicken and beef} are all succulent and soft, but we did find that most of the sauces, be it the Honey Mustard, Paprika and Balsamic, Maple Glaze, all tasted similar – like a pepper mushroom sauce. The Moussaka was authentic and Greek, and the eggplant version suddenly became a table favourite. Wash it all down with the rich, chocolaty Java Chip Mochachino or the simple, but strong and refreshing Cold Coffee.

Morning Kick-Start

Get the 24/7 Breakfast which is chicken or beef sausages, eggs to order, grilled tomatoes, hash brown {perfectly golden on the outside}, grilled mushrooms, toast and juice. Pancakes too are great – fluffy, drizzled with maple syrup just like mum-made ones. Waffles are delicious and add-on sauces that range from Cinnamon to Old Monk Glazed Banana {Oh, hello!}, ensure you’re spoiled for choice. Make sure you have enough room for their omelettes — Goan Chorizo, Mombasa {with African spices} and the Englishman {cream cheese, chicken and ham}, among others.

So We’re Thinking…

A real feather in the Castle-Wood Street addition, decent pricing, chilled out vibes and the breakfast offering, won our favour. Another easy-breezy enterprise from the folks at Smally’s – you’ll feel the similarities.
