5 Spots Which Will Make You Love Bangalore Even More

The information in this post might be outdated

We feel you, there’s lots of road work, Metro work and all sorts of works happening across the city, making it a bit tough to go gaga over Bangalore. But when it’s all said and done, there’s no place like home. So if you need that nudge to give dear old namma ooru another chance, we will happily give you reason. In fact, we’re giving you five reasons in the form of places that will show you a side of Bangalore, you may have forgotten.

Lalbagh Botanical Gardens

Bangalore’s pride and joy, our very own Lalbagh is about three centuries old and rocking. Generations of Bangaloreans have grown up hanging out or picnicking at Lal Bagh’s stunning gardens and grounds. From admiring the wonderful flora to checking out the annual flower show and shopping for the season’s first mangoes to just going for a run, Lalbagh is one place you can’t get bored of.

Sankey Tank

Keep it simple. Sit by the lake, lost in conversation, take a walk in the landscaped park with your partner or go for a boat ride around the tank. As the lake becomes home to many migratory birds during winter, you could even do a bit of bird-watching. If both of you are fitness freaks, make it a morning date and go jogging together on the paved walkways near the lake. Nothing like watching the sunset from here too.

Grasshopper, Bannerghatta Road

Because at Grasshopper, time literally stops still. Over many courses of food, the service is paced out and never intrusive. In fact, you are expected to relax with a glass of wine or two, have a proper conversation set to the tune of soothing jazz in the background and admire the twinkling lights and the stars. And we’re not complaining. Where else are you welcomed by bamboo thickets, gentle pools, and candlelit tables {yes, mark this spot for romance 101}, and fresh flowers.

Grover Vineyard

Nearly 410 acres of vineyards await you at the Grover Zampa plantation, at the foothills of Nandi Hills. You’ll never lose sight of the picturesque setting as you are guided through the process of winemaking (from crushing to bottling), take a peek into the barrel rooms and sip on wines that Grover produces. Once done, you can settle down for a buffet spread at the property. We recommend that you sneak in a bit of bird-watching as well. Carry a pair of binoculars and you might just catch a glimpse of the Asian Paradise Flycatchers, Thrushes, Eagles, Bulbuls and Puff-Throated Babblers that the region is famous for.

13th Floor

Perfect for an evening together, 13th Floor has one of the best views of the city you might ever get. Get there a little early and enjoy watching the sunset with your partner beside you, while you sip on one of their amazing cocktails. Pure romantic bliss, right? An old-favourite terrace bar and lounge, 13th Floor will not only give you great drinks but also a view of the city that’ll trump all the traffic and make you fall in love with Bangalore, all over again.
