What Makes It Awesome

Located 7 kms downhill from the slope from Abby Falls, Shangri-la homestay is a hidden gem in the scenic peaks of Madalpati. Looking at all the antiques in the living {archiac vessels to guns}, the homestay talks volumes about the ancients Kodagu culture. Our host, Jaya, made us feel at home right away and was always at our service.

The rooms have a creative touch to it as the hosts put in a little extra effort to glass paint the doors and the little chairs in each of the rooms. Not just this, even some stones in the garden are painted.

The food and the coffee served by our host was mind-blowing. There is a small seating area in the garden where we enjoyed our coffee. The home-made pork curry and chicken curry was also authentic and delicious. For breakfast, we had Pulihora and Rice Balls {which is a staple food of Coorg) with coconut chutney.

Our host and her husband also own a coffee plantation which is just a walking distance away from the homestay and they were kind enough to organize a tour on request for us. Also, there is a beautiful river that flows by close to the place.

My favourite part of the trip was right after dinner when we sat out in the verandah and spotted fireflies. It just illuminated the entire place and it made my day.

What Could Be Better?

The rooms didn't have fans but they provide you with a cooler {free of charge} if you ask for one. But I personally felt that there was no need for it since the weather was pleasant.

How Much Did It Cost?
