Shortcut

Hidden in the bylanes of K-Town is this tiny eatery that serves crispy falafels to subwiches and of course, happiness on a plate — hummus. Say Ahlan {hello in Arabic} to Al Masri Hummus And Falafel.

In Hummus We Trust

Hummus, falafel, and all things nice are what’s big at this small joint in Kammanahalli. Run by an Egyptian couple, Mohammed and Hana, the menu is quite limited as you can tell by the laminated menu hung on the wall. First on the menu and what catches your eye is the falafel sandwich. Order that before anything else. Don’t expect complete authenticity here, but rather expect quick hunger busters. Instead of pita bread, subs are your bread base. A rather generous amount of tahini is slathered inside the sandwich before adding crushed, deep fried crispy falafels, tomato and cucumber slices, and fries. Spicy sauce is added on request. Now, the menu is quite explanatory sans a few dishes like the Chicken Mugalgal Sandwich. It’s nothing but a very Arabic fried preparation of chicken mince with tomato, onions, and spices. Now, they have Macaroni and Cheese in Oven on the menu, but we say skip that and ask for Kushari. It’s an Egyptian speciality, which has macaroni, noodles, rice, and lentils all cooked together and topped with a tangy, hot tomato sauce and fried onions. Available in small and large size, this one along with the sandwiches are a sell-out with the expat crowd that largely make up the customer base.

Searching For Falafel

The eatery is quite small with just a few stools placed outside for you to sit and have your sandwiches. Only cash is accepted and takeaways are available too. Prices start at INR 50, so there’s no worry of burning a hole in the pocket. Oh, and in case you want hummus, you’ll have to pre-order it as it gets sold out before noon itself. Now, the chances of you missing out in this eatery are quite high and the fact that the place is not on Google Maps makes it harder. Located just off the Kammnahalli Maid Road, this place is located opposite St Charles High School and Convent. Your marker would be an ICICI ATM and 2nd Cross Ramiah Layout. In case you can’t find the place, not to worry, as you can call the place on +91 7760626416 and either Mohammed or Hana will guide you to the place.
