What Is It?

One of the city’s finest, and first, art festivals, Art Bengaluru is back for its 8th edition and as usual, is adding a new dimension to art in the city. Converting the grand interiors of The Collection, UB City into a treasure trove of art, you can appreciate unique and diverse mediums and styles, by artists from across the country. This year, you can marvel at 24 exhibits (with a multitude of sub-collections, housed in various parts of UB City) by 17 Indian artists -- from paintings, photo media and ink drawings to art installations, sculptures and video projects.

Some of the art on display include Balan Nambiar’s three steel sculptural exhibits, Kavita Jaiswal’s mixed media work on canvas should keep you intrigued as will Vipta Kapadia’s abstracts in oils and Chandan Bhowmick’s terrestrial abstractions in acrylic. You can also look forward to seeing linear hillscape in pen and ink, on paper, from 1986, by D Venkatapathy. Yuvan Bothysathavur, S Ravi Shankar and Ganesh Selvaraj will have you in awe. And that’s not even the half of it. From documentation of Naga tribes to digital recreations of last century postcards, make sure you leave plenty of time to take in these gorgeous works. Since it’s on for 10 days, you can even divide your art walks into a few pieces a day to really immerse yourself completely.

Who Is It For?

If you’ve got a penchant for art, this is certainly for you. You’ll understand the styles and nuances best. This is also a fine place to start your appreciation if you haven’t yet. The works are so diverse and compelling, you’ll swiftly fall in love with these mesmerising works! Connoisseurs, mark this down, and bring along a friend you’d love to introduce art to.

Why Should I Go For It?

Well, how often can you say you had access to 17 of India’s best artists, all under one roof? Hardly ever. Best not miss this opportunity. Plus, the opening night will have live entertainment, art walks and even a (literally) breathtaking performance by The Flying Drummers – an acrobatics performance that will take place mid-air. Did we also mention that a 30’ x 8’ oil on canvas painting by Saju Kunhan will be exhibited for the first time ever? A finely detailed work about his first experience with Mumbai, it’s a once in a lifetime experience. Now you’re properly convinced to go!

Pro-Tip

Opening night is November 2, 6pm onwards.
