From being open to the public to being a training ground for athletes, Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre is where you need to head for all things swimming.

What Makes It Awesome

Bangalore has no shortage of public pools for you to splash about in your Speedos, but when it comes to serious training and gunning for the gold, no one takes it more seriously than Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre (BAC). Their tally of 2,000+ mational-level medals, over 200 national-level records and that fact that they produced not one, but three Olympians including Nisha Millet of Nisha Millet Swimming Academy fame, is proof of that. Quite possibly the oldest pool in Basavanagudi, or even in the city, the 32-year old swimming pool is where all you serious swimmers and those wanting to channel their inner Michael Phelps should dive into.

Two open-air swimming pools, 50m and 25m respectively, are yours to conquer if you are already a pro at swimming. There’s also a diving board if you want to take that up too. Those looking for serious training and coaching, the elite level 25m pool with 8 lanes should help you out. It comes attached with a state-of-the-art gym for weight and strength training. Not a pro? Not to worry, there’s a wading pool for learners and kids to learn.

BAC is also open to the public, meaning you don’t necessarily have to be a member to swim in their 50m pool. There are eight lanes for you to lap and get your water baby mode on. The daily fee is INR 30 per person and INR 10 for kids under the age of 5. Apart from swimming, the centre also actively promotes water polo, diving, triathlon, and synchronised swimming. The last one we particularly like because, hey, if there’s anything that we want to learn more it’s being synchronised. And able to swim. Maybe grab your water-loving squad members and give this a try. Go for gold at the next Olympics even!

Pro-Tip

Speaking of learning, they have summer camps that happen between April and May for both kids and adults. If you are looking to pick up a new skill set or incorporate swimming into your fitness regime, you know where to sign up now.
