Winning For…

Interesting ingredients and innovative sandwiches that don’t burn a hole in your pocket. And a healthy menu for the calorie conscious.

Lowdown On Ambience

A little café with wooden décor, over-the-counter ordering, and Subway-style making of sandwiches, Bean Flickers is cute. But if you don’t know what Bean Flickers means, then continue with life, and don’t bother to find its meaning on Urban Dictionary – it’s impolite slang. The founders remain oblivious to millennial speak, so sssh.

Main ‘Sub’ject

Submarine sandwiches take centre stage here. We picked the Tuna and the Quail Egg & Mushroom Sandwich Subs from the regular board menu, and the interesting sounding Chicken Sriracha Burger off the specials. Unfortunately, the Sriracha burger wasn’t as tasty as it was exotic. Not bad really, but disappointing as the Sriracha wasn’t used optimally.

Quail Egg & Mushroom was good though the egg didn’t taste as rich as usual. We blame Mr. Mushrooms for overshadowing the egg. The winner by far was the simple Tuna Sub. Loaded with mayo, jalapenos, chilli dressing and cheese, it was everything you’d like a sub to be — healthy looking. Never mind actuality! Vegetarians, Sweet Potato Patties, Peas & Corn, and Paneer Tikka subs are on offer. Plus, salads. If you dare, try the massive signature burgers and Bean Flicker JUMBO.

Liquid State

You could opt to make a meal by adding a drink and chips or a bag of Lays potato crisps for a price. Of course, we added both. Oreo milkshake was rich and actually had Oreo chunks while the Café Frappe was chilled, had a caffeine kick and wasn’t too sweet. We were more enamoured by the Detox Smoothies though, in Yellow, Red and Green options. We ordered Red – beetroot, banana, strawberry among others. The Green, a mix of green apple, cucumber, pineapple, was our favourite of the two. Not too sweet, but filling enough.

So, We’re Thinking…

Great for a quick lunch, we’re going here for our dose of junk meets healthy food. And the Backstreet Boys tunes in the background.
