India's First Children's Literature Festival Bookaroo Is Coming To Bangalore

Suzanna posted on 25 August

Little bookworms rejoice! India’s first, and now apparently Asia’s biggest children’s literature festival, Bookaroo is all set to debut in Bangalore next weekend. An initiative by the Bookaroo Trust, a Delhi-based charitable Trust that works with writers, illustrators, storytellers, editors, publishers, booksellers, institutions and schools to make reading fun, Bookaroo  has come to cities like Delhi, Srinagar, Pune, Goa, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Kuching {in Malaysia} in the last nine years.

The two-day long children’s literature festival will be a mela of books, workshops, art and crafts, talks and activities with over 50 sessions happening at the venue. What’s more, interact with a bunch of authors and other big names in children’s literature who will also be at the event. Most of all, let the kiddos get lost in a world of reading and books, which will also be for sale at the venue. Targeted towards kids between the ages of 4 to 12 {parents are also more than welcome to attend}, there’s plenty here for the little ones to look forward to. Here’s what to expect from the festival.

Book Launches

The event will see the launch of three children’s books — Against All Odds, written by Ramendra Kumar, City of Rubble, written by CG Salamander and Frank Goes To The Market, by Karishma Mahbubani. The authors will be present at the event for a quick interactive session, a meet and greet. Let the kids interact with the writers of these stories and be the first ones to get their hands on brand new copies of the books, which will be for sale at the venue.

Fun Sessions And Activities

With around 50 sessions on everything from storytelling, theatre, poetry slams and many other activities centred around books, the kids will have plenty to do. There will also be a doodle wall and crafty corner that will tap into the creativity of the little ones. With around 25 sessions on each day, there isn’t gonna be a dull moment here. All the sessions have limited seats and work on a first-come-first-serve basis, so make sure to be on time.

On-Site Bookstore

The Funky Rainbow, the travelling children’s bookshop, is partnering with Bookaroo for the event and will have a store set up at the venue, with a great collection of children’s books for sale. The collection will feature the books by most of the speakers and authors present at the event and a host of other books as well across many themes and genres that the kiddos are sure to love.

The Who's Who Of Children's Literature

With over 25 speakers attending the event, hear from the big literary names in the children’s books circuits like Arun Kumar Gonal, from Storywallahs, a Bangalore-based organisation that specialises in storytelling performances, Karishma Mahbubhani, the mind behind short stories like Ramu’s Ride and Sparky’s Bark, and the folks behind the iconic Amar Chitra Katha comics among others. Also expect to see big international writers at the event too, like Singaporean writer Shi Min Xie and Malayasian storyteller Ng Kok Keong. Expose the little ones to a whole new range of books and let them fall deeper in love with literature and reading.
