What Makes It Awesome

I landed up at The Black Rabbit for a quick drink with colleagues after a long day at work. The decor here is simple, straightforward, tastefully done, but a little too dark to my liking, also because I wasn't able to click good pics in low light. After ordering a swift round of drinks, we browsed through the menu, while beginning our regular chatter.

I went for a Virgin Mojito, which arrived soon, chilled, refreshing, with the must-have mint & lemon punch. Since I was eating just vegetarian food that day, I stuck to small plates of stuffed mushrooms, crostini, & tempura onion strands {shared by all, of course}. The stuffed mushrooms tasted good and were served in a nice pot. The fennel salad on the side complemented the beautifully cooked mushrooms {a great dish for the mushroom-loving vegetarians}.

The crostini definitely stole the show - it was a nice crispy baked bread with a super smooth smearing of ricotta cheese, tomatoes and toasted pine nuts on a pesto bed in the centre. A burst full of flavours engulfs you, with all the ingredients working wonders on your palate. While I and my colleagues could never figure out if it was actual ricotta or just store bought cream cheese, however, there were no complaints whatsoever on the impact it made on both of us.

While still lingering on the flavours of the crostini, the tempura onion strands arrived. The super crispy tempura fried onions went extremely well with the accompanied freshly made tomato sauce and sour cream. Though deep fried it, was light on oil, typically how tempura should be, and now it became a little hard to pick a winner alongside the crostini.

Also, I must mention the service, which was quick, prompt and almost invisible without intruding our conversations all the time. Also, this sweet and swift visit did not do enough justice to this place and a follow-up visit is expected soon.

What Could Be Better?

With the true blue pub ambience, the place is still a little too dark. A little ambient lighting will do no harm, especially to make the place more Instagram friendly.
