A traditional courtyard house, perched on the peak of the Western Ghats, Chittara Homestay is the right choice if you want a home away from home. It’s ideal if you have kids too, as there’s plenty of space to play!

What Makes It Awesome

There’s something about homes in hills, that win brownie points over even the most swanky hotel or resort. Perhaps it’s the charm, and Chittara Homestay, in the nestled Mullayanagiri mountains, certainly lives up to that logic! A typical Malnad home, this one too has a courtyard in the main house, around which there are three independent rooms; if you have kids, this is a great way to get your privacy with them in a separate room not too far. For larger boisterous groups (yes, we’re looking at all you 20 to 30 year-old) who want to debate politics, fight over Monopoly or just take the conversation to all new lows while playing Cards Against Humanity, they have a colonial-style outhouse, cottage that is set up like a dormitory. Check in there, and thank us later! Bear in mind though, the homestay is not a fancy set up. It is simple, cosy and just like home. But with a garden and views to die for!

Since it’s in the Malnad region, the food is local, and you’ll be thrilled. Think akki roti with pepper chicken, kadabu with curries and the oh-so-popular (with good reason) mutton sukka too! All three main meals are part of the tariff, as are tea, coffee and snacks. We highly recommend you take your coffee (we prefer this to tea as it’s not too far from the coffee plantations of Chikmagalur!) and take in the gorgeous views this homestay has to offer. Sunrise or sunset, you’ll want to capture it as your peaceful zone in your (and on Instagram, we bet!)
