When you don’t want to laze away another weekend, pack your picnic basket and head to Chunchi Falls. Catch your breath amidst a tranquil and picture-perfect setting.

What Makes It Awesome

An old haunt for bikers and picnickers, Chunchi Falls is around 90 kilometres from Bangalore and falls beyond Kanakapura main road. It’s close to another popular getaway – Sangama and Mekedatu. So, if you plan to spend an entire day chilling and exploring, there’s plenty that you can do around here.

Unlike Sangama and Mekedatu, Chunchi Falls is slightly trickier to get to. So feel free to enlist the help of Google and the locals to get here. There’s no entry fee here but you will have to cough up a nominal amount for parking. Don’t bother getting off your ride if you aren’t sporting a pair of comfy shoes. Chunchi Falls sits amidst very rocky terrain and your legs are going to get a good workout. The area has pretty much been left intact so don’t go expecting cobbled paths as you’ll have to navigate through countless rocks and overgrown pathways to get to your destination so do carry a bottle of water or a picnic basket if you can.

Chunchi is a short waterfall that gushes down from amidst a bunch of rocky hills. The best time to visit is around now after the monsoons have settled down a bit. You can perch on a high rock and just watch the waterfall do its thing. It comes surrounded by lush foliage and open skies so you won’t be bored even a bit.

Pro-Tip

You can even trek down to the base of the waterfall but strictly stay out of the water since strong undercurrents and crocodiles are not uncommon here.
