Ready For A Coastal Culinary Adventure With Monkey Bar?

Shortcut

Monkey Bar’s is taking you on a coast to coast ride with some spicy, regional fare, but of course, all with a signature MoBar twist. From Kundapur to Udupi, via Kerala and right into our tummies, this one hits all ports.

The Coast Is Clear With This One

You must start on this culinary coastal journey with the Chilli Puli, a smashing cocktail made with tequila, tamarind paste, lime and chilli. The glass is rimmed with chilli salt and tamarind and the tart, fresh flavours of the drink will keep you happy through the meal. And did we mention that it is not syrupy sweet either? The Soulful Kadhee, though pretty sweet, is also on our list of must-haves because of gin, kokumsyrup, lime cordial and tender coconut water, all coming together beautifully with a tempering of curry leaves. The Kapi Macha is a bit of an acquired taste because of the strong flavours of vanilla, dark espresso, pineapple juice and cinnamon.

A Flavour Roller Coaster

The Kuttari salad we started off with was a medley of lovely flavours and textures with red rice, slivers of raw mango, coconut, and baby spinach all coming together with some happy crunch from peanuts {reminded us of the Kolkata Jhaal Muri, this one}. The Udupi beet cutlets, served with flaky Kerala parathas, were passed over in favour of the moreish Southern Fry – batter fried squids and coconut-tossed prawns coated with a dry shrimp rub. We also gave our hearts to the Monkee Eggs, perfectly poached eggs sitting atop a delicate puff pastry, with coconut cream hollandaise and a dollop of piquant green chutney. The Kundapur-style, really spicy Prawn Ghee Roast served with garlic bread {surprise, surprise!} was a close second in the favourites department. Beef lovers, there’s Kerala-style beef fry served up with bao uttapam {pretty neat!} and you can’t really go wrong with the KP Tacos – Kerala coin parathas stuffed with peppery chicken, onions and garlic pickle. Just roll, shove into mouth and repeat.

So, We Are Thinking…

We are going to back to try the Kundapur Chicken Wings, which apparently might reduce us to tears with its heat levels, and The Chilli Puli will continue to be our drink fix for our next meal too. Most dishes on the Coastal Adventure menu are really spicy, so you might want to ask the staff to turned down the heat if you don’t like it so fiery.
