Bangalore-based Curiosity Kills The Cat, started by Reshmi Shekhar, makes interesting postcards, travel boxes, posters and sketchbooks for artists and non-artists.

The Back Story

Reshmi, who is the artist at Curiosity Kills The Cat, indulges in making things for people who love music, travel and pop culture. Interestingly, the brand is called what it’s called because there’s the buttocks and tail of a cat hidden in every single drawing. Reshmi studied architecture and started drawing only in 2014, after which she began selling her art at Comic Con and Hysteria, a music and pop culture art store on Church Street. Strangely, despite the brand’s name, she loves dogs {and even has two of her own} more than cats but decided to go with the name, because… well, the Internet loves cats.

Musika Much?

We’re pleasantly surprised to see a lot of indie band artwork that not a lot of people like to experiment with. Artists such as Morcheeba, The Black Keys, Kings of Leon, Bonobo and even The XX get a main feature. Other bands that make an appearance are Coldplay, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Alt J, Arctic Monkeys, Maroon 5 and U2 among others. Framed posters, art prints and even art boards are available in these seriously cool designs. Reshmi’s artwork is a reflection of her taste and likes.

The Others

Apart from music, Reshmi draws inspiration from her favourite movies, books, TV shows and even her travels. You can find the likes of House of Cards, Game of Thrones, Friends and Breaking Bad among TV shows and cult movies such as Pulp Fiction and action adventure films including The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy as part of her collection. There’s also some Woody Allen artwork that we love. Among books there are beautiful black and white sketches of The Great Gatsby and Great Expectations. In collaboration with travel blogger Mehek Punatar, Reshmi also makes travel boxes filled with lovely things that hold the essence of a place {think stationery, chocolates and maybe even notes from a passerby}. This can be the perfect present for your globetrotter junky friends. For anything that this amazing artist doesn’t already have, Reshmi also customises things. Time to make your house a pop culture paradise now.
