What we ate and drank

For starters, we first dug our forks into the Bombay Chatpate Aloo, potatoes crisped up in their jackets and tossed up in a mouth-watering sweet and sour sauce. Equally stellar were the creamy Chicken Liver Fry and the Galouti Kebabs, where the lamb was sent through a mincer 15 times before being fried in ghee {they don’t skimp on the richness here}. Alcoholic indulgence came in the form of Garam Dharam Whisky, a warm drink that was underlined by the sweetness of apple juice and bits of cinnamon. There was also the Masala Cola, a classic rum-and-coke concoction peppered with black salt that gave the drink a pungent kick.

Tucking in

For the main, we were brought tiffin carriers {an ode to the Dabbawallas}, comprising a salad, Naan, and Bhuna Mutton. The spice-coated mutton had achieved a wonderful tenderness. We also tried the Governor’s Tiffin, Dishoom’s version of the famous Kheema Ghotala that’s a staple at Irani cafes. Instead of adding the eggs to the kheema, the mince here came topped with a runny egg. The contrasting textures of the eggs and the smooth mince were a real treat. We topped this off with a bowl of warm ghee-filled Gajar Ka Halwa that didn’t let us quit till we finished the last bit.

The DL on the ambience

Cheery graffiti covering Mumbai’s hallmarks, pillars that chalk out foodie favourites, and stark white walls greet you here. There’s also an outdoor section where you can enjoy the cool breeze as vehicles vroom past.

So we’re thinking…

We’re definitely returning {many times over} to Dishoom for its flavorful treats and chilled out atmosphere.
