Five Reasons You HAVE To Be At The Birthday Celebration Of VR Bengaluru

Ten-Second Takeaway

Remember the unveiling of the impressive Black Box in Whitefield? Yes, yes, VR Bengaluru! They’re turning 1 already! And it’s not everyday that VR Bengaluru turns one. But when they do, it’s going to a solid celebration. In fact, it’s all set to be three weeks long. That, ladies and gentleman, is how to celebrate your birthday! And from the massive line up of events, here’s our top five.

The VROne Carnival

Kickstarting it all on May 20 will be a two-day extravaganza — the VR Carnival. Expect great food from in-centre restaurants and kiosks, music that will keep up the energy levels, plus street artists. But the highlight of this carnival will be Karsh Kale {his global fusion music will blow your mind} and Thaalavattam, renowned artist who creates music using innovation instruments! Get in!

GetLOUD Pool Party

Smack in the middle of summer, what better party than a pool party this Sunday, right? And with a Sky Deck for the venue, and an infinity pool to boot, this one is unmissable! But what’s a celebration without music. Enter Rohit Barker, his skill, style and swag and you’ve got yourself a proper party. And part of the line-up of DJs is Nash, Vanshi, Raghu and Sid. Still wondering if you should go?

Penn Masala Is Performing

Yes!! If you missed them last year, you’re being given a second chance. Oh, you don’t know them? These folks are the world’s first South Asian A Cappella Group, and will mesmerise you with mashups. Picking on popular stuff, check out their Hindi-English versions of Shape Of You/Mann Mera and Tonight/Diliwaali Girlfriend, on YouTube, learn the lyrics, and then go watch them live. Since all the music is made without instruments, it’s worth watching. If you don’t trust me, then trust Barack Obama — he loves this group.

Dhaatu Puppet Festival

If you’re thinking that this is for kids only, then you’re wrong. Ideal to dive back into the history, heroics and old world charm with tales of yore. Dhaatu, an NGO that aims to bridge the gap between modernity and keeping alive traditional wisdom, will introduce you, over two days, to interesting stories of epics, mythology and reintroduce you to the glorious heritage India has.

Watch A Film Under The Starry Skies

The days of drive-ins might be gone, but when there’s Sky Decks, starry nights and a film screening, life is good again. Teaming up with Steppin’ Out for this one, bring your crew, bae, family or come alone really, it’s all about the experience. While the film they’re going to showing is currently Top Secret, going by the Steppin’ Out Movie Nights we’ve been to before, it’s going to be a lot of fun. So, you bring the candy, we’ll bring the popcorn.

And if all that isn’t enough to have you pitching your tent at VR Bengaluru starting May 20 until June 10, then maybe the fact that there will also be an Under The Stars party, World on a Plate with master chef {including Gary Mehigan, Adriano Zumbo, Janice Wong, Ellena Duggan and Ranveer Brar}, and also a summer bazaar.
