Right at the entrance of Pondicherry from Chennai, Flora Beach Guest House is a haven for budget backpackers and weekend getaways. Got a big group? Flora has four double bedrooms and three tree houses that can accommodate upto six people each. The bedrooms are cozy and also air-conditioned, and all come with an attached bathroom. But we fell in love with the thatched roof tree houses with bedding on the floor. You have to climb a ladder to get to them and the minute you’re in there, it feels like you’re really roughing it out and are at one with nature {even though you aren’t – they have full cell service there}. The walls are made of bamboo and coconut leaves so look out for the odd creepy crawly, but nothing to be a drama queen about, they aren’t dangerous.

The staff is super welcoming and will offer you tea whenever they see you. Now they don’t have a restaurant, but chances are you’re probably going to be doing so much exploring that you won’t need it. We’re going to be honest, this place doesn’t come close to a star hotel but it is absolutely perfect for a college trip with your classmates or a cheap weekend getaway with your buddies. Which is exactly what we did, and at around midnight, my entire class was jumping into their swimming pool and taking Boomerang videos of the same.
