What Makes It Awesome

Nestled on a banana plantation in Kamalapur near Hampi is Green Restaurant that makes local, organic and wholesome food. With simple outdoor (great for big groups) seating under the shade of trees and indoor shack style seating, the completely vegetarian restaurant and cafe is known for their unlimited thaalis.

Their rather extensive menu has Chinese, Italian (we saw pasta and pizza), North and South Indian food. The portions are generous, and great for those days when you need to fuel up for a long day of sightseeing in Hampi. They've got a great breakfast spread whether you're looking for pancakes, oatmeal or upma and idli. Since they cater to foreign tourists as well, they have a range of coffees and tea too.

We had the South Indian Thaali, Veg Fried Rice and the cashew and vegetable curry. All the South Indian dishes are reminiscent of classic Uttara Karnataka cuisine so their rasam is hot and garlicky, their lentils are largely green sprouts and the included rotis are made of jowar. The accompanied paaysam wasn't overly sweet, and their curries and pickles were on the slightly spicy side, but we enjoyed it with tears running down our faces because it was yummy! We finished it off with some masala buttermilk and their special banoffee pie with bananas straight from their plantation. They even have lodging facilities that include huts(cottages) and rooms. However, you might want to call them in advance to check up on that front.

What Could Be Better

The place has a very laid back vibe, which extends to their staff and speed as well, so if you're in a big rush you'll have to keep reminding them to attend to you.

How Much Did It Cost

You bill will be between INR 500 and INR 1,000 for two if you have a rather elaborate meal!
