Lowdown On Ambience

Located on Koramangala’s 60 Feet Road that’s packed with eateries of all sorts, Gunpowder occupies a smallish basement space. Once you go through the glass doors, you can pick you spot {depending on the number of people you’ve arrived with} from a handful of chair and table settings.

Biryani For The Win!

For the most part, Bangalore’s many Andhra restaurants {and there are plenty} offer food that’s non-authentic and awesome but also similar. We are glad to announce that Gunpowder decidedly stands apart from the pack and that, in this case, is a very good thing.

The chef, who routinely walks out to chat with the guests, insisted that we try the biryani. And we didn’t offer much resistance. What we got was, a bright-yellow, layered biryani that came with chunks of mutton. While the rice wasn’t heavy on ghee or spices, the mutton came cooked in a marinade of rich spices {including pepper and chilli} that gave it a more pronounced flavour than we are used to seeing in Andhra Biryani.

From The Land of Gongura And Guntur

We paired our helpings of biryani with the Andhra Chicken Fry. We were warned that it was high on chilli and they weren’t exaggerating. The chicken is tossed about in thick, dry masala that reeks of spice. Jets of steam blew out of our ears after a few bites but we couldn’t stop eating it. This one is strictly for the chilli lovers though. The Gongura Mutton curry had a lovely tanginess to it, and we lapped up the curry. However, the mutton bits in it were way too chewy for our liking.

So, We’re Thinking…

Don’t let those tissues out of your sight! If your tummy can’t digest too much spice make sure you tell them to dial down the heat. Also, they have inaugural offers running. You can get a chicken biryani for INR 99 and a vegetarian meal for INR 150 in the coming days
