Handloom fabric is what the label Gauri is all about and in its tiny hole-in-the-wall avatar, you get to pick dresses, kurtis, and sarees of different prints.
Indiranagar Label, Gauri, Is Winning Us Over With Its Handloom Ikat & Sanganeri Print Dresses
In a tiny garage space that’s turned into a boutique, what attracts you to Gauri is their blend of ethnic wear in different prints and designs. A 360-degree turn inside the store is all you need to see the limited but interesting collection of sarees, kurtas, blouses, dresses, and fabrics. Run your fingers through the material and you will feel the soft and smooth texture of the handloom cotton. The store and the label primarily deal with handloom cotton with a few percentage of the materials sourced directly from weavers.
We found an interesting collection of Khadi and pastel lines that go for your afternoon lunch session with the squad or #OOTD goals at work. Gamcha fabric from Bihar, the ever-popular ikat prints from Andhra Pradesh, Kalamkari prints, and Sanganeri prints are what’s available in both material form as well as readymade clothes. The material corner in the store is stocked with a limited but colourful collection Kalamkari and ikat prints.
Get Your Hands On These Looms
Whether you are picking our sarees, kurtas, or even blouses, the prices start from as low as INR 800, with an average price of INR 250 per metre for the material. When we nosed around the place, we found a few kurtis priced between the INR 1,500 and INR 2000, sarees between INR 1,800 and INR 3,000.
Stitch In Time
Samast Roop, the stitching unit of Gauri that’s based out in Marathahalli is where all the stitching happens. Let’s say you find a design or print of your choice, post measurements at the store, you will need to fix upon an appointment and all that jazz. The stitching prices are based on the work. Oh, and next time you don’t find a matching blouse for your saree, worry not. The stitching centre also does hand embroidered fully customisable blouses as well.
The store is easy to miss. It’s off 12th Main Road, just past Salt Mango Tree restaurant and right next to Fancy Chilli decor store.
