Chocolate, Potato, And Podi: This Jayanagar Restaurant Does Fun Versions Of The Idli

A small, darshini-style restaurant in Jayanagar, Idliiies puts a delightful spin on the idli.  Chocolate, potato, and podi are just some of the fantastic flavours on offer.

In Jayanagar, there’s no dearth of idli and dosa joints. And while there’s always room for another, we are always on the lookout for an out-of-the-box version of the run of the mill darshini. Enter, Idliiies {that’s how they choose to spell it}. A small joint on the first floor in first block Jayanagar, Idliiies celebrates the humble idli like no other. While they are open for breakfast, we recommend a trip in the evening when the more exciting flavours are on offer.

For one,  there’s the chocolate idlis — where the cocoa is mixed with the batter and the end product comes with a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Sweet lovers won’t have any complaints with this. If you prefer savoury versions,  try the potato stuffed idli. Where the classic potato palya sneaks out from between the layers of batter. This is an infallible combo. We also loved the podi Idlis. The idlis were cut up and tossed about in spicy chutney podi that gave it plenty of heat. The added spices gave it an extra kick.

Banana and Jaggery, methi, and paneer stuffed idlis are also part of the lineup. If you prefer to keep things plain and simple, they have the no-frill idlis paired with a spicy chutney and sambhar. Ragi shavige and Pongal also make the cut.
