Ten-second takeaway

As the season changes, so does the menu at I&Monkey. This time around, expect plenty of smoked, sizzled and flambéed meats and veggies to see off the last of the winter chill.

Bite-sized beginnings

Small plates are a great way to start off on their new menu because you really get to warm up to the new flavours. Cottage Cheese Calzone is a veggie favourite as is the Zucchini Kofta which is paneer and zucchini fritter served with a tangy tomato sauce. From the meat section, there’s crab croquettes which you may not want to share! Arriving with a remoulade dip, the de-shelled fish is a hit with seafood lovers, who will also fall hard for the calamari. Prawn with bacon or in a pepper marinade are good too, but can be skipped in favour of Green Tea Smoked Pork Belly – our personal favourite.

To share {or not}

They say the larger platters are ‘For Sharing’ but we don’t really insist on that. More so when there’s Curried Lamb Shank which is slow-cooked in rosemary and coriander. The Moroccan lamb roast is equally delicious, and falls off the bone literally. We weren’t the biggest fans of Cajun Chicken with Spicy Fettucine but the spinach and cheddar-stuffed tenderloin in a boozy Jack Daniels marinade and Piri Piri Mackerel hit all the right notes! Still on the alcohol-food run, Flambéed Chicken Supreme with a dark brandy sauce is a warming option too. Herbivores, our recommendation is the Vegetable Sizzler which wins for the barbecue sauce. A modern take on the French classic, Grilled Ratatouille is zucchini, aubergine and carrots in pita bread.
