Going beyond their flea market format, the good folks at Kitsch Mandi are rolling out an all-new project. Called Junta, the project aims at bringing together emerging artists, designers and illustrators from across the country {featured in different editions of Kitsch Mandi}. The new community is all about creating a platform to connect these creative folks to work projects, events and related projects. From clients like a school in Coimbatore that wanted their interiors done by artists to brands looking for ace designers, Junta lends a helping hand to up and coming artists who don’t want to be confined to a gallery space.
Art on their minds
Their programmes go beyond just work projects though. For instance, Speak Junta is a series of talks {following a TED Talk format of sorts} which will involve a selected artist curating talks by others in the same field. Networking events for fellow artists to meet as well as projects with social impact are also part of the Junta initiative. One such programme, in collaboration with artist, Poornima Sukumar’s Aravani Art Project, has the artsy folk working with transgenders and training them to make products. Another similar activity conducts pottery sessions for kids at a juvenile boys’ home in the city.
