Heading to Coorg is always a good idea for Bangaloreans. And we’ve discovered a new resort-meets-homestay that’s by the river for the perfect mix of luxury and chill vibes.

Down By The River

Kadkani Riverside Resort is a slightly different kind of resort. It’s not your swanky start hotel, but it is not your homestay-esque sort either. In fact, it wonderfully straddles that line of luxury and homely, without disturbing the balance. Located on the banks of the Cauvery in the little hamlet of Hachinadu, the resort is ideal for a quiet family weekend, or even an adventurous getaway with a boisterous bunch of friends. What I love most about it is that you can laze in your cottage {or on the patio} just looking onto the river. Or you can dive right into all the action. You can actually dive into the waters for a swim, when the waters are not too high.

Live The Life

For a Kodagu style stay, pick the AC Cottages {not that you will need any air conditioning there now} that are styled like traditional homes in the region. This means you’ll have a large veranda, spacious sun-lit bathrooms and antique-designed furniture. For a change from this though, they offer AC Dens, which are more rural in build, but not in terms of amenities. So fear not about your TV, shower or air-conditioning. We’re however, eyeing the much more indulgent premium cottage that is done up like a Tudor house in white and black and sloping roofs to boot. These ones are two-storied with a semi al fresco dining area in case you want to eat under the stars, listening to the babbling river and hum of the birds around — apparently over 100 species! Of course, being a Kodava enterprise, South Indian, especially Coorg cuisine, must be had here.

Because Coorg

Utilising the location by the river to the max, you can go swimming, head off on a rafting trip downstream, boating, or just wallow in the swimming pool on the property. Those after an adrenaline rush, zip lining, trekking and plantation tours are yours for the taking {doing?}, and we recommend all of them. More so zip lining as you get a birds-eye view of the vast and gorgeous plantations below you.

Have a Go-Pro? This is the perfect opportunity to use it! They also have a Burma Bridge {that maze of rope on treetops}, so if you’re strong enough to hold on, it’s a fine way to spend time. Kids can bounce around on the trampoline for entertainment, while adults can try their hand rifle shooting {what, it’s Coorg!} or even a round of golf training. See, I told you it’s a different kind of Coorg. And for just INR 9,000 a night for two, it’s a good deal, no?

If you have bicycles, do take them along. While they’re are a few to rent at the resort, you’ll be more comfortable exploring the plantations on your own bike.
