What Makes It Awesome

A tiny designer boutique in the Sanctuary complex, next to Safina Plaza, Kalpana Studio showcases some interesting designer pieces when it comes to ethnic wear. A far cry from the glitzy and ostentatious occasion wear that’s readily available on the neighbouring Commercial Street, what we like about Kalpana’s collection is that it’s understated while looking festive. That's not a code for dull - expect bursts of colour, different patterns and heavy embellishments on the clothes here, without them being too loud or gaudy.

A minimally done up space, with only two rails on either side and a small table in the centre, sift through sarees, each a unique piece. From a gold saree with pale pink accents to an ocean blue one with a pleasant floral pattern, everyone is sure to find a piece they like. Not a saree kinda gal? Check out their rack full of long skirts that will pair very well with a cute crop top, or can be worn as a lehenga even. These too are available in a range of colours, prints and designs to spoil you for choice.

It’s not just festive wear that’s on the shelves here. We spotted plenty of maxis that don’t demand a special occasion to be flaunted. These easy breezy designs make for stylish daily wear and combine Western silhouettes with Indian prints and fabrics for that indie chic look. You can find a few evening gowns here too, but we prefer their ethnic stuff.

Pro-Tip

Apart from apparel, they have a limited number of cutesy ottomans and a few home decor pieces on sale here too. But those come and go swiftly, so you’ll need to keep a check at the store.
