Cocktails get a splash of mango syrup, salads come with blobs of mango gel, and sushis with mango slicers, The Fatty Bao is {man} going all out this summer with its Big Fat Mango Harvest menu.

Mango Mania

The Fatty Bao is our go-to place for out-of-the-world ramen, baos, and fun Asian cuisine. And when we heard that they were introducing mangoes to their sushis, baos, and even cocktails, we were intrigued.

The limited menu is an interesting mix of quick bites, salad, starters, mains, and desserts. For quick bites, you have the Summer Wonton Cup, Crab Cake Bao, and the Mango Avacado Sushi. The sushi, rolled with piquant spicy sauce, cucumber, and iceberg lettuce for the extra crunch, bring a fresh flavour to the palette with the mango and avocado slices. The soft baos are stuffed with mango kimchi and crunchy crab cake and are a good alternative if you are not a sushi fan.

The Green Mango and Prawn Salad, the only salad on the menu, needs a special mention of its own for its assortment of sweet, sour, spicy, and salty flavours. Soft, poached prawns rest on a bed of coconut gel with blobs of sour mango gel lending the sour kick. Garnished with cilantro for freshness and sliced chilis for heat, everything from the presentation to the flavour is nailed perfectly.

The Aam Aadmi Party

We’d also recommend the Mango- and Sriracha-Glazed Chicken and Stir-fried Pork Tenderloin served as starters. Both equally good on their own, but the spicy and sour chicken wings won this round over to the dry red chilli heat of the pork. The Thai Mango and Seafood Curry with Jasmine Rice is the perfect meal before an afternoon siesta. It comes with peanuts, fried onions, spicy sauce, and rice crisps on the side — very executive meal types.

You can wrap up your dining scenes with either the Mango Panna Cotta or the Mango and Yuzu Meringue. The meringue is served in a mango skin and topped with tiny scoops of ripe mangoes.

Mango Spiked Drinks

The mango cocktails, five in number, is quite a treat for anyone who loves either the raw, sour or the fruity, sweet flavour of mangoes. If you like the taste of tea and alcohol, might we suggest the Smokey Joe? Smoked raw mango, whisky, lapsang tea, and lime are what make up this pick-me-up drink. Mood for something mellow? Order the Sun Drowner with white rum, mango, basil, mango syrup and a chilli. For fun drinks, try any one of the three, the Hula Coolah, By The Bay, and Asian Beet.
