Green, airy and ideal for the new hipster generation, this processed green tea is all the rage. And we’re not sure that it’s matcha do about nothing or it really is awesome. All we know is that it makes for a rather good drink and of course, a fine dessert. Here’s where to load up on versions of matcha — cakes to latte.

Fresh Pressery Cafe

This healthy cafe is really killing it with their menu. And staying on trend, hipster thought they may be, they’re got a series of matcha cakes for you to indulge in. There’s a matcha with green tea and coconut cream glaze, a matcha and kiwi option and one with matcha, white chocolate and raspberry/blueberry. We’re also eyeing the little matcha cupcakes {INR 1,000 for 10} and matcha lemon bars {INR 1,200 for 12} to just nibble on during tea. Or anytime really!

Price: INR 800 for ½ kg cake and INR 1,300 for 1 kg cakes

Shizusan Shophouse & Bar

Unlike the coffee infused tiramisu that you know off, the one served here goes green with its matcha tea soaked layers, matcha sprinkled meringue rocks, and mascarpone cheese. If not for the Vietnamese Bành Chuoi Nuong {another Insta-worthy dessert}, then it’s this one that we would order to wrap our meal.

Harima

Sushi followed by loads and loads of matcha ice cream? Bring it on! The subtle sweetness and the slightly bitter aftertaste of the matcha might need some getting used to. But once you have it, you’ll only want more.

MISU

Known for their familiar pan-Asian cuisine in a swish London-eque set up, Misu also has a matcha addition to their menu – the Matcha Green Tea Garden. A dessert worth putting on Instagram, this one is a chocolate-coated flower vase that is filled with matcha green tea mousse. And to balance the rich chocolate, it comes with a dollop of lemongrass ice cream. So that’s basically all our favourite dessert flavours in one. This is what you call a matcha made in heaven.

The combination of raspberry and matcha is what makes the Matcha and Raspberry Ice Cream Meringue Cake a winner with us. Oh, and that crunch element from the hazelnuts, rice crips, and meringue rocks make this otherwise soft dessert interesting. Oh, and did we tell you that it is Insta-worthy as well? Although not a dessert, this new age superfood finds its way to San-Cha Tea’s lovely version — the matcha green tea. We like how they advise you have it like a latte. Naturally, we tried this at home, and so should you. Sweetish and creamy, put it on your next high tea menu, and the crowd will go crazy. If not, they are not worthy of being your friends!
