Performance Piece No Rest In The Kingdom Shows Feminism And Comedy Needn't Be Mutually Exclusive

What Is It?

Shoonya resident Deepika Arwind is presenting her solo piece this weekend at BeaglesLoft. The show is also produced by city-based arts collective — the Sandbox Collective. Arwind brings a comedic spin to the annoyances and frustrations faced by women in the country. She’s not doing it to make light of these issues though, but to highlight the difficulties of gender inequality in India. She plays on the misunderstandings that arise between genders, and how gender in itself is a subjective matter.

Who Is It For?

If you’re looking to laugh a bit at the grim realities of life, you should definitely head for this. The show works as a deconstruction of gender in some ways — its humour is based in reality, making it an informative way to face the topic head on.

Why Should I Go For It?

No Rest In The Kingdom is a pro-feminist performance piece {named after a Beyonce and Drake song, we'd like to add}, bound to capture everyday realities with a hearty, but biting, sense of humour. It not only raises a conversation about inequality, the lighthearted tone it uses to approach this loaded matter makes it more accessible and relatable. Also, the performance is produced by the Sandbox Collective who are well known for their thought provoking theatre and performance, so you know this is going to be worth the view.
