It's all About Old-Fashioned Beer Houses in the City of Pubs

The information in this post might be outdated

Long before the swanky clubs and microbreweries took over the city, we had charming, old-fashioned beer pubs. Many of them offering just mugs of draught beer along with bar nibbles and a background of lively music. While fashionable microbreweries and hip gastropubs might be the flavour of the season, these old-school places still stand tall and strong, with their own loyal following.

Windsor Pub

Pick from good old chilled beer or Shandy while you wait for your pub grub here. Walls adorned with old jazz and rock posters (with music to match), and a laidback vibe add to the old world charm of Windsor Pub. Tuck in to the meaty offerings here (their Vedi Erachi and Pandi Curry come highly recommended) while you catch up with old friends or just treat yourself to an evening of comfort food and beer.

Jimi's Beer Cafe

Dimly lit with a rock n’ roll vibe, illuminated Jimi Hendrix posters and loud music in the background, Jimi’s Beer Cafe is one for the rock lovers. The place sees a steady stream of regulars, be it for the beer, their variety of cocktails (they also have beer cocktails) or the steaks. And, one of the best things? They have happy hours throughout the week!

Sherlock's Pub

Started over two decades ago, this pub is done up with a charming Holmes-theme (think exposed brick walls with framed posters of the famous detective). While they do have enough booze to choose from, the draught beer on tap is what you should order here. Along with a helping of their bar nibbles, of course. They also have quite a lot of grub to choose from as well.

Noon Wines

While Kingfisher lager beer and their in-house red wine are the only options, this old-school dive bar (also known as Scottish Pub) lets you sit back with a book (no loud music here, most of the time) or just have a chat with friends. Not too high on the ambience factor, their finger food (try the Peanuts Masala or the Cheese Pineappale Cherry Squares) is quite a favourite among regulars.

The Pub World

Probably one of the oldest pubs in the city, The Pub World represents the Bangalore of yore and has been an all-time favourite hangout spot for years. The cosy place (with its ambience very much like a typical English pub) won’t take too long to help you settle in with a pitcher of their great beer. And the music (no blaring tracks here to bother you) featuring classic tracks might just take you back to good ol’ days.

Down Town

Want a watering hole that serves good beer on a budget? Down Town is your answer. While there are enough pubs in the area to give them competition, it has stood the test of time, much to our happiness.
