From Olan To Avial: Here's Where To Tuck Into A Grand Sadhya This Onam

Onam is here and it’s time to get wasted eating 24 plus dishes from a banana leaf in a single sitting. With your Malayali friend already in Kerala enjoying the 10-day festival and posting pictures of Onam sadhyas {feast}, it’s time for you to hit the streets and find yourself a nice place that’s serving sadhya. Ente Keralam

With a name like that, there’s no way in paathalam {hell in Malayalam}, that this place will not be serving a sadhya. Expect an assortment of traditional dishes like kaalan {made with yoghurt, coconut and vegetables}, erissery {pumpkin and red beans with a grated coconut gravy}, thoran {veggies stir fried with grated coconut} and avial {a mixed vegetable dish made in ground coconut gravy} along with rice, sambhar, and other Onam specials.

When: Wednesday, August 30 to Tuesday, September 5 between noon and 3:30 pm.

Well, this sadhya will have you munching on pazham puris {banana fritters} and parippu {lentil} vadas before you dig into the signature dishes like olan and avial can be had along with Puzhukal Arri Choru, which is the traditional red rice from Kerala. Wrap up your meal with desserts such as parippu payasam, paal ada pradaman and pazham purungidu, which is basically just steamed Kerala bananas glazed with a copious amount of honey.

The menu is just similar to BonSouth with pazham puris, parippu vadas, olan, avial, and Puzhukal Arri Choru all making their appearance. If we are to go by the fare that they usually serve for vegetarian Kerala meals {which we love}, expect everything to be several times better for the sadhya.
