Ten-second takeaway

The Wizard of Oz gets a ballet lift in Oz - The Ballet, courtesy The Lewis Foundation of Classical Ballet.

The up-in-the-air effect

Let the tornado sweep you off to the land of ruby shoes, emerald cities and yellow brick roads at this ballet adaptation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The show is by The Lewis Foundation of Classical Ballet, spearheaded by Yana Lewis, a danseuse with over 35 years of experience. Following the same story as the book by L Frank Baum, the entire ballet school will get in on the drama and dance, so you’re in for a real treat!

Ruby shoes and pink tutus

The production will see the magical world of Oz come to life with sets fit for Broadway and performances that will leave you wide-eyed. Tutus will of course reign supreme but tuile, lollipops, wispy clouds, and the Emerald City itself are something to look forward to. We also hear that the Tin Man costume is stellar. On a personal note, we cannot wait to see Elina Wisung, also a teacher at the academy, do her version of Dorothy while Shifa Ali will take on the daunting role of The Wicked Witch of the West, last played in pop culture by Mila Kunis. Little Toto is another draw with cute-as-a-button Jazmine Bhanushali playing Dorothy’s canine companion.
