Relax, Take It Easy At These Breathtakingly Beautiful Beaches

The information in this post might be outdated

Are the beaches calling out to you? We hear ya. But might we suggest taking the road less travelled and avoid the most obvious option?

Take a look at these lesser-known, gorgeous beaches India has to offer. Walk barefoot on the sand, soak in the warm sun, and kick back with some tender coconut water—good times are here.

Radhanagar Beach, Andaman Island

To be honest, no matter which random beach in Havelock, Andaman you dumped us on, we’d be pleased as a punch. Often termed as the best beach India has to offer, Radhanagar Beach sure is one of the most picturesque and stunning beaches we’ve ever seen.

Pristine blue waters, long stretches of white sand, and huge trees—there’s no end to the beauty of this place. Don’t go expecting a busy beachside with lots of activities though; it’s perfect for a laid-back, relaxed day on the beach.

Paradise Beach, Pondicherry

Before you get into your beachwear, we suggest you pause for a bit and take in the colonial beauty of the city—it’s breath-taking. Take a day or two to explore the French quarters, quaint cafes, and Auroville {the experimental township 15 kms away}, and then hop on to a ferry to Paradise Beach.

Unpolluted and to a certain degree, untouched, Paradise Beach is ideal for a fun day at the beach with friends and family. The waves get pretty choppy in the evening, so you need to leave before 6pm. Want more? There are local fishermen in the area who will catch fish and cook it for you right at the beach!

Marari Beach, Alappuzha

White-golden sand, clear waters, and a shore lines with coconut trees, Marari Beach in Alappuzha district of Kerala is one of the lesser known beaches in India. If you’re sick of the fast-paced city life, the lazy shores of Marari are where you can slow down and take it a little easy.

There aren’t many great eating places on the beach, so we suggest staying at one of the homestays and resorts located nearby, so you won’t go hungry.

Kudle Beach, Gokarna

A bit of hippie, are you? You’re going to love Gokarna, where you’ll find many likeminded folks. While this is not exactly a party zone, it’s not completely devoid of activity either. There are many shacks on the shore, so lay back and chill with a pint of beer and have a light lunch.

The beach is quite flat, so you can walk a lot further into the sea than you can on most beaches {still, be safe!}. We highly recommend you stay on the beach post sunset, when travellers come together with music, bonfires, and great conversations!
