What Is It?

Fans of author, Roald Dahl, here's a reason to pull out those copies of Matilda or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory {if you needed one, that is}. This September 13 marks 100 years since the birth of the popular British novelist and The Humming Tree's Books & Brews {a book club-based concept for bookworms in the city} is all set for an early celebration of the occasion. Teaming up with some performers from National Centre for the Performing Arts {NCPA, Mumbai}, they have an evening of readings and enactments in store for you.

Who Is It For?

The folks at The Humming Tree say it's for everyone with a heart, and we agree. All those readers, old and young, who have ever wished for a chocolate factory like Willy Wonka's or enjoyed James' journey in the giant peach, this one's for you. Haven't read any of Dahl's works? Then you HAVE TO be here. What better opportunity to familiarise yourself with them than among ardent fans?

Why Should I Go For It?

Sit around as the NCPA performers take you through dramatised renditions of some of Roald Dahl's popular works. Expect poems like Cinderella and The Three Little Pigs from the collection, Revolting Rhymes. Along with excerpts from the all-time favourite Matilda and My Uncle Oswald, look out for readings of short stories like Mr. Botibol. Oh, and a special themed menu to add to the charm of the occasion! Think cocktails like Marvellous Medicine and dishes like Trunchbull Chocolate Fudge Cake and Mrs Twit's Wormy Spaghetti! If listening to those wonderful stories tempt you to read them further, you won't have to look too far. There will be a pop-up bookshop with secondhand and new tomes up for grabs, we hear. And a fun chocolate shop to complete the picture.
