Ten-second takeaway

The Hood, in collaboration with Little Black Book, adds some fitness and fun to your pre-Valentines Day celebrations with the Runners with Wife race. Yes, you have to carry your significant other.

Tell me more

Intrigued? Well, we can imagine why! Taking inspiration from the Finnish sport Eukonkanto where in the male participant has to carry the female through a special obstacle track in the fastest time, The Hood and yours truly, LBB, are hosting the tweaked version. Both partners have to run four kilometres first, and the final stretch, you have to carry your partner. And while the Finns made sure the men did all the hard work, in this case, ladies are welcome to carry their man (or woman) if they feel like it! While it’s all for the fun of it (we’re probably going to wake up just to go watch the drama of it all), this technique is really effective if you and your partner are trying to build strength, stamina and endurance. Nothing like making your body and the relationship stronger, eh? Plus, two prizes – the fastest couple and the most entertaining one.

But, how?

No need to scratch your head wondering how you’ll carry the significant other because they’ll give you a few demos. But if you’re a smart person, or rather couple, you’ll start practicing right away. Piggybacking may not always be the best method, we warn. We tried. And just in case you are riding solo, then the Running Single race is exactly the same course, and you don’t have to carry anyone. Obviously. But you also don’t stand a chance to win prizes. You’ll earn respect, we promise.
