With a limited but good menu zoning in on the best of South Asia, ambience and authentic flavour makes this one a winner.

Winning For

The menu is compact and we love that it cuts to the chase. No fluff. Just the real deal.

Lowdown On The Ambience

Breezy, subtle and with a stunning view, this evening-only restaurant will make you actually like Whitefield. Scattered tables give you privacy and there’s a teppanyaki section and a sushi bar {the only kind of bar that trumps the one serving alcohol!} to complete the set-up. Quite romantic, really.

What’s On The Menu

Chef’s Signatures start you off, and if you’re a noob, stick to them. There’s plenty of sauces and meats to choose from, so we picked the New Zealand Lamb Rack in a Kratiem Prik Tai. The garlic and pepper drizzle went well with the soft meat, and the heavenly, melt-in the mouth baos make it a match made in heaven. The crab and lobster are good too especially when paired with the all-encompassing XO Sauce. Tom Talay Pag – a spicy and sour soup – arrives with prawn dumplings and veggies, and is the only soup we find out of the ordinary. Possibly because we keep our eyes on the prize – sushi.

The platter is worth your while as it has 15 pieces of Maki, Uramaki, Nigiri and Sashimi. Tuna Nigiri with piquant Kikkoman sauce is ace. But our vote goes to the Salmon Skins Maki. Delicately roasted shards of salmon, crunchy cucumber and that sweet chilli sauce is enough to send us to cloud nine. But we do return for Pag Phad Bai Gaparow, a surprisingly light and wonderful stir fried veggie delight with chilli and hot basil sauce. Wash it all down with the Thaijito – a further spiked Mojito with lemongrass, and you’re set for mains.

Japanese Grilling

BBQ Pork in Hoisin Sauce {our top favourite}, Kai Pad Kee Mao {chicken} and Serombotan with sides of fried rice did the trick for us. The chicken, an interesting mince in garlic, chilli and basil, is simple but very flavourful while chilli peanut sauce with veggies, was good enough to turn even a carnivore! For entertainment and a quality all in one meal, the teppanyaki section will sort you out. Scallops, prawn, and the veggie ones have our money on them.

So We’re Thinking…

When we want a restaurant that moonlights as a lounge bar and serves up good Oriental food, we’ll make the trek to Sake, without batting an eyelid.
