Ten-Second Takeaway

Sarah Kay is going to be headlining the National Youth Poetry Slam, but there’s also Biswa Kalyan Rath who’ll be performing. Plus, over 75 slam poets having a war of words.

Kay Sarah, Sera

Sarah Kay is coming to Bangalore and we can’t be more excited. Don’t know her? Let us gleefully explain. Founder and co-director of the innovative ProjectVoice, which uses spoken word poetry to entertain, educate, and inspire {that kicked off in America}, Sarah has been a poet since she was 14. Her debut book, No Matter The Wreckage, is a delightful collection of poems about her journey of self-discovery and we were smitten in minutes. How often do you read of a romantic relationship between two inanimate objects {The Toothbrush to the Bicycle Tire}? Quite a rollercoaster of emotions this one. So, now you see why we’re so pumped.

Word Play

Performing for the National Youth Poetry Slam, you’ll not only get to watch the 28-year-old poet live, but you’ll get to also see YouTuber and stand-up comedian Biswa Kalyan Rath, up close and personal. For that performance, we highly recommend you sit at least one row away from the stage because as usual, first row folk will be in his line of fire. If you work in IT or are married, then it’s a certain no-no, going by his last performance in town!

Poets Of Fall

While you’re at it, and really, since it’s an inter-collegiate event, do stick around to watch poetry slam hopefuls also battle it out on the stage. The winners will go straight to College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational {CUPSI} the world's largest international slam in USA. There’s going to be over 75 youngsters stepping into the spotlight, and you’ll have Airplane Poetry Movement {a project to develop the culture of performance poetry in India}, and Campus Diaries {a discovery platform for students} to thank for this wonderful blitz of spoken word talent.
