The Ultimate Guide To Bridal Wear in Bangalore

The information in this post might be outdated

After telling you our favourite haunts in Mumbai, Ahmedabad , Kolkata and in Chandni Chowk it’s about time there was some action on bridal shopping in Bangalore. Not really the first city that comes to mind when we think of bridal shopping, Bangalore nonetheless offers some hidden gems of its own. And, no one knows Bangalore better than fashion guru Prasad Bidappa.

He named a few of his favourites in the city, “Ever since India has been divided, there has also been a divide when it comes to wedding couture shopping. While Delhi and Mumbai became the centres for the biggest designers for both traditional and red carpet wear, Bangalore became big for prêt à porter or ready-to-wear garments. I’d put Seema Malhotra right on top in the city for the individual looks that she offers. When it comes to budget, I’d suggest people look at Ritu Kumar, as you can find a lot of options, right from affordable to high-end. I also like stores like Tamanna, Nalli and Mogra for bridal wear.” He adds that while Bangalore may not score big when it comes to North Indian bridal wear, he absolutely recommends brides to come down to the city to check out the large selection of jewellery designs the city has to offer.

While you do have most of the high-end pan-India designers in the city, there are also quite a few Bangalore-based ones. You also have the option of stand-alone bridal boutiques, which range from mid to high-end. All you need to know is where to head to, and we are here to help you with just that!

Seema Malhotra

Imagine having a designer for your special day who has designed for films like Shakespeare in Love, Elizabeth and Finding Neverland! Yes, that’s all thanks to the mother-daughter duo of Jamila and Seema Malhotra, who have taken the Bangalore market by storm. If the name doesn’t strike a chord, then Shimmer might. Yes, their flagship store in UB City is extremely popular for the beautiful ethereal designs, perfect for any bride to look like royalty. But be ready to shell out the big bucks here.

Deepika Govind

If you’re looking for something designer but traditional, then Deepika Govind is the go-to name in Bangalore. She has weaves that are innovative but pretty traditional. Not a fan of too much of bling, her designs are simple but still stand out from the rest. She has a lot of labels under her name, and apart from her flagship store in Bangalore, also has retail stores and buyers across the country.

Ritu Pande

Working at the beginning of her career in Indonesia, Ritu Pande has developed a pan-Asian approach to her designs. She has designed for a lot of Bollywood divas as well! A deviation from your traditional saree, her designs are innovative and definitely look different! So if you are looking for something that’s a good fusion of Indo-western for some of your other events, or want a designer saree made for people who can’t handle it, do check her out! Her creations are available in stores in most metros, but her biggest bridal store is in Bangalore.

Sarita Mandoth

She believes that ‘Old is Gold’. With our changing trends and tastes time and again, her pieces are more timeless… with a lot of fabrics that make the piece look vintage. So if traditional is your thing, do give her a thought! While she designs for women, her husband has a line for men too.
