What Makes It Awesome

Do you look away when you spot or hear 'old-fashioned' anything? Well, we were most definitely drawn to Green Heirloom that stands for everything old, traditional, treasured and in most cases bequeathed to generations! Intrigued? We are referring to cookware our grandmothers and great grandmothers used. Kaviya, the Founder of this brand was inspired by the same after a trip to her ancestral home in Kochi and a peek into her ammamma's kitchen.

Next came a lot of researching and Green Heirloom was born. This online brand is only two-months old, but the ideals it stands for makes us believe it will soon turn everybody's kitchen around. They bring us sustainable and eco-friendly (green) traditional (heirloom) cookware from artisans and creators across the country. By doing so not only are they reviving and supporting communities that thrive off this artform but are also making us switch from non-stick chemical laced nasties to clay pots and cast iron skillets synonymous with good taste.

You will find three categories -- Cast Iron Cookware from small foundries in Tamil Nadu, Stoneware from Salem and Clay Cookware from local artisans across Kerala. The Cast Iron collection is super impressive. It has a Grill, Skillet even a Cast Iron Paniyaram Pan among other things. From the clay section, definitely get the Curry Pot, Curd Setter and Serving Plate. Stoneware is particularly hard to come by, says Kaviya, for now Green Heirloom stocks up on Soap Stone Pot or Kalchatti and a Mortar and Pestle.

Pro-Tip

The prices are our favourite bit. The entire range starts at INR 475 and stays well under INR 2,000. Green Heirloom is already a hit, with order coming in from the States too. So they've also begun shipping worldwide.
