A plethora of unusual starters at wallet-friendly prices. Plus, a format that suits those looking just to drink and munch.
What to eat
Targetting those looking to drink and just casually nibble on starters, this place has about 18 starters that you can have a go at. The Kesari Murgh here started us off nicely thanks to the sharp saffron flavour. Then, our favourite, the Moroccan Grilled Fish, in a spot-on lemony charmoula sauce arrived. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to discount the fact that it was basa. The herb-marinated Armenian chicken comes with a sweet barbecue sauce, but we highly recommend ditching the sauce for the real simple but striking flavours. Seafood fans must indulge in the crunchy Calamari Rings that come with a mustard mayo dip.
The Paneer Kali Mirchi is a great opener for Team Vegetarian in its soft and peppery avatar. Living up to the expectations, the cheesy polenta is also good here . Sceptics but converts later, we recommend the Phaldari Tikki – potatoes, yam and raw bananas mixed with masalas for a tango of flavours on the tongue.
A competent but limited buffet of mains offers Chicken Biryani, Mutton Roganjosh {greasy but good}, Dal Makhani and a few veggie dishes on rotation. Dessert ranges from Burfi and Kheer on the desi front to cheesecake and Caramel Custard {the amazing, old-school version!}.
What to drink
Whiskey Sour is our favourite here as they get it just right with a hint of sugar cutting the sharp whiskey and the lemon zest adding a punch.
DL on ambience
Taking over the entire terrace space of Cunningham Road’s Citrus Hotel, this one is dominated by a stone-top bar and large screens playing sports usually. Cutesy cabanas overlook the street, and while the city isn’t very pretty in this area, you do have a bird’s eye view of it.
So we’re thinking…
Be it a starry night surprise or a boisterous night of sports with your gang, this place deftly bridges the gap between restaurant and pub.
