Lowdown On The Ambience
Tucked away on the 8th Main Road, Smoked Out Barbeque is quite easy to miss. It’s relatively small {just 5-8 tables} with open spaces, wooden tables and a backyard barbecue vibe. As the name suggests, there’s a constant waft of smoke coming from the kitchen, bringing with it the delicious aroma of meats being grilled and spiced. We especially love the choice of background music: country, blues and jazz. After all, when was the last time you heard some BB King?
What’s On The Menu?
It’s a limited menu here, but they’re really good at what they do. While their vegetarian dishes are also pretty tasty, this place definitely won our hearts for its meat dishes. The Chicken Wings here, are doused in a tasty barbecue sauce worth licking your fingers over. The portions are slightly small at four wings per serving, but digging in, we could definitely understand the hype.
High Steaks
The steaks {especially the Beef Tenderloin} are succulent and flavourful, to say the least. They come with a side of veggies, garlic bread and mashed potato/fries, though we’d suggest avoiding the mashed potatoes here {much to our disappointment}. We were happy to see that they redeem themselves with their burgers, especially the Grilled Lamb Burger {ask for cheese or a fried egg as additions}. It’s juicy, tender and beautifully infused with spices. Yummy!
Satiate your sweet tooth at the end of your meal with their Apple Pie {served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream}. The filling is amazingly scrumptious. Don’t blame us if you lick your plate clean! If that’s not your cup of tea, they also have Grilled Banana, Grilled Pineapple and a Combo Fruit Grill, though you wouldn’t miss much if you were to skip these.
So We’re Thinking…
On clear days, Smoked Out promises a great meal but unfortunately, ventilation is sometimes an issue {think a locked room with Don Draper and a pack of Lucky Strikes}. If you can get past that, the food is bound to keep you happy. Meat’s definitely the hero at this joint. Come here for the best of the Old South: barbecue and the blues.
