Ten-Second Takeaway

Bringing along their signature bicycle-themed props and hilarious reinterpretations of Shakespeare's works, The Handlebards are back in town with an all-new production of Much Ado About Nothing.

Cycling Along

Never thought Shakespeare's plays were your cup of tea? Don't be too sure as The Handlebards might change your mind with their witty reinvention of the Bard's works. Considered to be the world's first cycling theatre company, the UK-based troupe has already cycled over 5,000 miles across the globe. After a run of sold-out performances earlier this year as part of their India tour, the group is making their way back to town with a new production. This time, they've chosen to reinterpret the comedy, Much Ado About Nothing.

Bringing together signature props like bicycle paraphernalia, makeshift props {think a mop that becomes a musical instrument} and camping equipment, the four-member cast {in kilts and bright knee socks} are all set to perform over 20 characters among them. Going by previous shows in other cities, they might even invite someone from the audience to fill in for some roles!

Making Shakespeare accessible to all, expect plenty of fun {think sock puppets or hilarious gestures} along with music and dance. Oh, and a whole new cast — Paul Hilliar, Matt Maltby, Liam Mansfield and Stanton Plummer-Cambridge — to look out for as they shift between characters in the complicated love triangle, all signalled by the ring of a mini bicycle bell! While we're already booking our spots for this one, next time around, we're hoping to see their new all-female troupe as well.
