A furniture company based in Bangalore, Bent produces furniture pieces that are crafted by hand. By using traditional woodwork knowledge & skills along with an innovative bent {geddit?} of mind, Bent makes furniture of a whole new kind.

The Philosophy

Formed sometime in early 2007 by three graduates from NID, Ahmendabad and Srishti Art and Design School, Bangalore, Bent is all about a new genre of furniture altogether.

Amidst the mass production of furniture that’s bulky and heavily varnished, Bent’s simple designs are a sight for sore eyes. The inspiration behind their pieces lies in the body of work of some great 20th century furniture designers like George Nakashima and Hans Wegner.

They believe in letting the natural sheen of the wood come through, which is why they are strongly against the use of any synthetic or water-based sprays on their pieces.

The Pieces

Each piece they create is unique and distinctive, but we can’t help but mention a few that really caught our fancy. The Cribber, especially, is real genius; a baby crib with an attached seat for the mum or dad to seat on and chill while they rocks their baby to sleep!

The Sukhasana Chair, with its large curved seat and back, lets you sit cross-legged in Sukhasana {a pose ideal for meditation}. And if you prefer sitting cross-legged on the floor while having dinner, we say check out the Low Table.
