The New Windsor Pub Isn't A Patch On The Old One, But The Food Still Wins

After the iconic pub shut shop in Vasanth Nagar and moved to Indiranagar, a lot has changed but we’re still betting on their coastal food.

Winning For

The large selection of food from the coastlines of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa. Perfect to go with plenty of beer.

Lowdown On The Ambience

Windsor Pub doesn’t feel like itself in this new location. The old-world charm of rustic wooden chairs and large rundown sofas is missing, and it isn’t anything like the small, cozy pub that had an imperishable smell of draught beer that kept patrons coming back. Instead, it’s a huge place sliced into three sections with brand new furniture that tries to keep up with the pub’s old-school reputation. It isn’t the Windsor Pub I’ve known and it feels like just another fancy restaurant that dots 12th Main Road. That said, the food was delicious.

Meat And More Meat

The Pork Fry made in Coorg style is a must-have for the tenderness of the meat and the spicy flavours. Thankfully no basa this time, I binged on the juicy Seer fish. The Fiery Chilli Chicken is an unconventional {think not-Chinese} dish prepared with just the right amount of green chilli and a ton of coriander. I’m not a big fan of spicy food, but this really was something else. The Goan Prawn Curry is also worth a try. I picked a Bloody Mary to go with all the fire that my tongue was on, although I preferred it when there was only tap beer that one could order at the old location. It was a tad disappointing to see very few dishes from the old Windsor Pub menu even though many of the staff moved here.

The Caramel Date Pudding was a great, sweet ending to all the spice. Some might find it a bit too sweet, but the cake itself was a darling. If you’re particular about your cheesecake, skip the Blueberry one for you might be disappointed.

So We’re Thinking…

I’d go back for my coastal food cravings, since I’m a huge fan of seafood. I’d also like to check out their jams on Thursday evenings, where they have live jazz and rock bands performing. But I guess it’s a goodbye to the old Windsor Pub vibe forever.
