What Is It?

The grand old British Council, which has long been the destination for Chennaiites for a well stocked library, enriching cultural events and many learning opportunities, is now older and grander! This weekend, the British Council celebrates being in India for 70 long years by hosting a range of several activities – both educational and fun – for its Chennai people. From music to ceramic workshops to digital marketing, the event covers just about every possible interest under the sun – in the areas of knowledge, art, and entertainment.

Who Is It For?

The event offers something for just about everyone, and this is no hyperbole. Interested in honing your business communications skills? There’s a workshop for you. Or perhaps you’re an aspiring graphic novelist? A travelling Reading Room exhibit and a zine-making workshop (with interesting focus on women and gender in comics) may just be the thing for you. And if you’re someone who’s always fancied pottering around with clay, a workshop allows you to learn more about ceramic art and the art of making them.  The events are not only for young and old adults, however; there’s enough for children too. A storytelling session is bound to keep your child riveted, and there are also parent-child activities in which parents and children come together to understand art and illustrations in children’s books.

Why should I go for it?

The event has perfect mix of activities for people of all age-groups and interests, so there’s likely to be something that catches everyone’s fancy. Apart from all the business, education and art-related workshops, the event also promises entertainment. Whatever your musical tastes, you’re sure to enjoy this – “Mix the city”, an award-winning interactive musical experience connecting music, cities, styles, and people, will be on show, accompanied by a selection of Chennai-based musicians along with George Haddow and Maarten. There’s Carnatic music as well as fusion by artistes like Anil Srinivasan, Paul Jacob, Vivek Anand, Saroja Ganapathy Rajhesh Vaidhya , Sumesh Narayanan and the Perimelam drummers. So immerse yourself in a unique musical experience for two hours at 6.30pm on June 29!
