What Makes It Awesome

Itching to take a break from your work desk-bound life and play some sport? The Chennai Trekking Club may just be your answer. A non-profit organisation run by volunteers, the club organises a huge number of activities on weekends and weekday mornings such as treks, sports, and social activities. The group is nearly a decade old and has become one of the largest of its kind in South Asia with over 40,000 members. Expenses of the activities conducted are shared by the participants.

The Chennai Trekking Club also conducts several large events on an annual basis such as marathons, triathlons. environment awareness drive and symposiums to slowly but steadily transform people’s now sedentary, unhealthy lifestyles and inspire them to take up a sport and outdoorsy activities. Treks, runs, cycling events, swimming events and camping are organised regularly too.

Photo walks for the eager shutterbug and making art in public spaces to create awareness about various environmental causes are among the other activities that are on offer. As part of Chennai Coastal Cleanup, Anna University’s walls were painted on by The Chennai Trekking Club volunteers to speak of the impact of plastic on oceans. Pretty cool, isn't it?
