    Shortcut

Shanmathi Creations has set up a great collection of golu dolls at Sri Sankara Hall, and you can get them at 20 per cent discount!

    What Makes It Awesome

It is that time of the year when all you can think about is golu dolls. Navaratri is around the corner and it is time to choose the best dolls to be assembled on the steps. Head to Sri Sankara Hall on TTK Road and you are sure to get excited by just looking at how they have arranged all the dolls based on different shapes, sizes, and colours. Get #NavarathriReady by buying bommais here - they have stand-alone dolls and ensembles made of white terracotta clay starting INR 150. We found the thalayaati bommai, idols of various gods and goddesses, miniature kitchen cutlery and utensils, and Dasavatharam ensembles starting INR 250.

Each year a new set of dolls enter the market that sells like hotcakes. They also feature in the "whose house has the best dolls this year" competition that is held in every apartment in the city. Give your golu a tech-mix with the cyber cafe set (people working in a cyber cafe on computers). We also liked the student set which is kids learning from a teacher in a classroom. The patriotic corner of the golu can have tiny dolls of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Swami Vivekananda.

Desi dolls be the best. Check out the village set that has and village people working on the farms and on bullock carts. We also like how there's a lot of focus on working women (yaaass). There are some idols (Ganesha, Krishna, etc) with extensive stonework, too. We found an ensemble depicting all the seven stages of marriage, and they have the same for an Andhra-style kalyaanam too!

Their fastest moving dolls include miniature Chhota Bheem and Ganesha from popular children’s TV shows. Another great addition this year is the thoranam, a decoration to pretty up your walls or just for interior decor. We fell in love with a set of handpainted dolls that are unevenly cut but that's what makes them perfect. We also found paper-mâché based art and dolls here, so head to this store if you want lots of variety this Navaratri!

    Pro-Tip

The salesperson at the store is very helpful, so feel free to ask her to point out and explain the new collections. There’s a 20 per cent discount, so get your fave dolls today!
