Started in 2018, Maram is the brainchild of two Chennaites - Vignesh Raman, an art director and Manasa Ramanathan, an architect. Literally translating to wood in Tamil, Maram specializes in handmade wooden watches and wands. Yes, you read that right!.
Made to order, the watches here come in two varieties – one is all wood and the other is wood with a combination of leather straps. The cover for the dial alone is made of quartz glass. Carved from locally sourced teakwood (has a dark brown tint ), padauk (has a red tint) and peach wood (looks more like sandalwood), these start from INR 2500 and can be customized to engrave letters, pictures and even paint them to your fancy. Light in weight, scratch proof and also water proof, these can be delivered within 4-5 days across India.
As for the wands, well, those are a certain treat for all the Harry Potter lovers because these are exactly what you see in the movie.
