5 Alternative Sports to Try at Adidas Uprising

We’ve all played some form of cricket, badminton or football at some point, but every now & then it's a good idea to shake things up a bit. With Adidas Uprising right around the corner, we thought we’d let you in on some of the not-so-mainstream sports that you can experiment with.

Skateboarding

Skateboarding was invented only a few decades ago when Californian surfers were trying to ride flat waves, but the credit for its worldwide popularity must go to Hollywood. You finally have the chance to test your skills in this American sport at a free skateboarding workshop being organised by Freemotion Sk8, Delhi’s first skatepark.

When: 14th December, 4pm – 8pm

Where: Cyberhub, Gurgaon

Wall Climbing

imf2Guess what? You don’t have to go all the way up to the mountains to make the climb. Sign up for a full day workshop of wall climbing where expert trainers will help you reach great heights. Warning: You may get completely hooked to it; we know of people who have gone in for a session or two and have returned with the intention of taking up mountaineering professionally. For real.

Cycling

Get together with fellow cyclists from the city in the wee hours of the morning for a 20 kilometre ride around South Campus. They’re taking the upper Ridge route, so it’s going to be a tough uphill battle. You’ll need to reach the starting point on your own with your own bike and safety gear, so we suggest you get there on time.

When: 13th December, 5.30 am onwards

Table Tennis

close up service on table tennisAllow a wave of nostalgia to hit you from the days when you used to play T.T. on the dining table with your sibling, and then sign up for the real thing. They’ve got under-16 tournaments, above-16s, men singles, women singles, men doubles, and mixed doubles—so go ahead and smash it out of the park!

Rugby

rugby1If you want to go a little beyond your usual games, rugby should be right up your alley. Get trained by international level rugby player Gautam Dagar, who will coach you, familiarise you with the rules, show you the right techniques, and train you to increase your strength, balance, speed, and agility so that you can do your very best at this super intense {and sometimes violent} sport.
