The films that she has worked on as an editor or assistant director in her earlier years were about Indian syncretism, the Muslim community within a democratic Indian context, the evolving of syncretic Muslim mystic musical traditions in India. Her body of work also includes looking at some of the dark sides of this multicultural clash within India, like, honour killings and conflict zones. She is also deeply interested in artwork that can be vaguely described as a performance of the personal. This includes a film that she did on her own self, looking at body image politics. At the moment the projects that she is working on deal with women’s cross-cultural narratives of solidarity, sexuality, human rights, Indian education system and gender discrimination. About the Film THE F-WORD For the past several years, the filmmaker has been fat, clinically obese. Does this battle with the bulge have deeper roots and bloodier scars on her personality? This is a journey of self-discovery, discrimination, conformity, stereotyping and the filmmaker’s negotiation with a bad body image.
